Chelsea Left Fuming As Lamine Camara Deal Collapses

Lamine Camara’s move to Chelsea has officially collapsed in a dramatic final twist on deadline day.

Monaco originally did not want to sell Camara and rejected Chelsea’s earlier bids, including an offer worth €45 million with bonuses.

The situation then changed when Folarin Balogun’s proposed move to Everton ran into medical problems. Monaco had been expecting a major fee from that transfer, and once doubts emerged around Balogun leaving, the club became more willing to discuss Camara with Chelsea.

That is what reopened negotiations and eventually led to Chelsea reaching an agreement in principle for Camara, with reports putting the deal at around €55 million.

However, the transfer then fell through at the final stage.

Fresh reports say Chelsea are furious after Monaco reportedly reversed course despite a written club-to-club agreement being in place.

There had already been complications around the payment schedule and bonus structure earlier in negotiations, and the final details were ultimately not completed in time.

That leaves Chelsea in a very awkward position after Enzo Fernandez’s move to Manchester City.

Fernandez had been one of Chelsea’s most important midfielders, and the club had spent the day looking for a replacement, with both Camara and Roma’s Manu Koné under consideration.

Roma were reluctant to sell Koné, which pushed Chelsea back towards Camara, and for a period it looked like they had finally got the deal done.

Instead, the window has closed with no replacement arriving.

Chelsea are now left having to work with their current midfield options until at least January, and the collapse of the Camara deal will make the decision to let Fernandez leave look even more significant.

For a deal that appeared to be agreed only hours earlier, this is one of the most dramatic collapses of deadline day.
