Chelsea preparing for Premier League triple swoop

Xabi Alonso’s in-form Chelsea side is lining up for a tripartite Premier League pounce with Lucas Bergval, Morgan Gibbs-White and Martin Zubimendi all being considered per TalkSport.

The London club have had a strong start to the season, winning both their opening fixtures, but are looking for more reinforcements to solidify their side, having shipped five goals in just two games against Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Two of the targets, Bergval and Zubimendi, come from direct rivals, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, and will be hard to attain in such a short period of time, whilst Gibbs-White proves an unlikely swoop in itself, with the Nottingham Forest midfielder being one of the club's standout players.

Chelsea have already spent in excess of £350 million, making this summer window the third most ever spent by a club, narrowly behind their own window (£391m) in the 2023/24 summer window, and Liverpool’s 2025/26 summer window (£391m). If any deal does go through for the cohort of players they are targeting, it is likely they would break the record and sit at the summit of the most ever spent by a single club in a window.

Already signed by across the summer months include the likes of Morgan Rodgers for £117m—the most ever spent on an English footballer, beating Elliot Anderson’s transfer from Forest to Manchester City by £1m—Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace for £52m, and veteran stars Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck.

With just hours left in the window, it is unclear how much Chelsea will end up spending, but with approximately £250m already accumulated in sold fees, there is still money in the bank for the Blues to splash about as they look to make a return to European football next season.
