Chelsea Set to Break South American Transfer Record For Willian Estevão

Under Todd Boehly, Chelsea haven’t been shy of investing large money in youth talents and they are set to complete another mega move. They will be paying around €65m to Palmeiras for Willian Estavão, which will be the most expensive sale in the history of South American football. He will join the London club in the summer of 2025.

Estavão, who has been dubbed “Messinho”, is considered one of the biggest youth prospects in Brazil. Perhaps the nickname, which is a mixture of Messi and Ronaldinho, should tell you all you need to know about the youngster. Despite having made less than 20 first team appearances, the Brazilian has caught the eye of football fans and scouts alike and there are some who believe that he’s the biggest prospect to come out of Brazil since Neymar himself.

The 17 year old has already managed to wow everyone with his immense technique and dribbling. He’s also a very creative player that has an eye for incisive passes. Although he prefers the central areas, he can play multiple positions in the attack, which makes his profile even more special.

Whilst Willian and his agent Andre Cury made it clear in the past that the player’s priority was to move to Barcelona, the financial situation of the Catalan club made it impossible for them to make a move for him. The emergence of Lamine Yamal was another factor as both players have a similar profile. The teenager also gathered interest from other top clubs like Real Madrid, PSG and Arsenal.

Chelsea will desperately be hoping that he lives up to his potential. Signing arguably the biggest wonder kid in football is a clear message from the club and the management. Chelsea will now be back in the market for the biggest names in football. They might just have another diamond in their hands.
