Como 1907 sign Euros Winner Andrea Belotti

Como 1907 can count on Andrea Belotti in the upcoming Serie A season. As the promoted team officially confirmed, the attacker from AS Roma has signed a two year contract.

Last season, when Belotti joined Roma from Torino, he went on loan to AFC Fiorentina half way through the season and was involved in 13 goals during his 46 appearances for the club. In his whole time in the Serie A, he scored 112 goals in 330 games.

During the most recent Euros in 2020, the 30-year-old was part of the Italian national team who won the title.

Belotti still had a contract with Roma for one more season, which is why Como had to pay a €4.5m release clause for him.

For Como, this move is massive as Belotti will play a big part in trying to stay in Italy’s top division in the upcoming season.

The Italian international is going back to the same region where he signed his first professional contract with UC AlbinoLeffe.

On his move, Belotti said:

“I chose Como 1907 because I was very impressed by the project presented by the coach (Osian Roberts). He shared his ideas about football, his approach to each game and his mentality. The coach’s mentality aligns with my own.”

The last time the Italian side played in Serie A was during the 2002/03 season but they did not manage to keep up with the standard and got relegated in the same year. The following season, the club got relegated again and then played in Italian’s third tier for six years before getting promoted into Serie B again in 2015.

The success did not last long as within the next two seasons, Como got relegated to Serie D.

It was only in 2022, when the Italian side was able to feel secure in Serie B again and after 22 years, they have now managed to play in Italians best league once more.

For Como this was a long, tough path and for the upcoming season the hope of staying in Serie A is growing after the signing of a couple of key players.

Defender Gabriel Strefezza will join Como 1907 from US Lecce for £5m. He therefore is their record signing.

Belotti, the second most expensive signing in the club’s history, is set to join the clubs two attackers, Patrick Cutrone and Alessandro Gabrielloni, who have been the top goal scorers for the club last season and played an important role in getting promoted.

Although the club already has a starting striker in Gabrielloni, Belotti is likely to take over that position in the next season, due to his experience in the Serie A.

But the transfer does not just help Como - Belotti will also profit from this deal, as he has lost in value a lot over the past few years and is waiting to show his full potential again which he was not able to show at Roma or Florence.

Before the 2020 Euros his market value, according to Transfermarkt, went up to €40m and has dropped drastically year after year after the Euros down to now €5m.

With this move, the Italian international is definitely proving that he is not at the end of his career yet and wants to use this opportunity to reach his maximum potential again in order to help the team in their upcoming challenge in Serie A.
