Could Ivan Toney be on his way to Italy?

31/03/24 10:33

Brentford’s Ivan Toney has not been shy of the headlines since arriving to the Premier League. The striker has been banging in goals left right and centre for his team and is one of the best players in his position in the league.

The Englishman returned to action after a long and controversial ban in late January. And if rumours are to be believed, Brentford have set a shocking price tag of £100m on their starman, who looks set to be moving on from the club this summer.

Ivan spoke about his situation in January and this is what he had to say: "You can never predict when is the right time to move elsewhere, but I think it's obvious I want to play for a top club.

"Everybody wants to play for a top club, that is fighting for titles. Whether it's this January that is the right time for a club to come in and pay the right money, who knows?”

According to recent reports, the striker could be headed to Serie A. Brentford’s high price tag for their footballer meant that some interested Premier League clubs were forced to look at other options and this has provided an opening for Serie A giants Inter Milan and Napoli to try and sign the striker.

Napoli believe that he could be the perfect man to replace Victor Osimhen, who looks set to leave the club for a hefty fee in the summer. Toney’s commercial and sporting impact could serve as a “marquee” signing for the club.

Inter Milan will also look to strengthen their squad this summer because despite their impressive form domestically, they were disappointingly knocked out by Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16. They will look to provide Lautaro Martinez with a worthy partner up front because Lukaku and Dzeko’s departure last season left them with a massive hole in the squad which may have led to their disappointing exit from Europe.

For now, nothing is decided for Toney though as we head into April. These could be crucial weeks for the future of the striker, who has even spoken of a dream move to Real Madrid in the last few months. It will certainly be an interesting case to follow.
