Crewe Alexandra Sign Jay Mingi On Loan

Crewe Alexandra have captured the signing of Stockport defender Jay Mingi on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old got plenty of minutes in League Two with Colchester two seasons ago but has since had playing opportunities limited with Stockport in the third tier.

Mingi's Career

Starting as a West Ham United youth product, he played 20 times for The Hammers' Under-18s in Premier League 2.

He first played in the Football League for Pompey and made 17 appearances, albeit limited to substitute ones with only 537 minutes in total.

He then dropped down a division with Colchester and had his best run of form to date, making 25 outings and earning a move back to League One with Stockport.

However, he hasn't featured for The Hatters yet this season and a move back to the league he once flourished is the best course of action for him.

Alexandra's Options

Lewis Billington and Stan Dancey are the two right-backs at Crewe going into the season, although Dancey is only 18 and has just been promoted from Crewe's academy setup.

Billington himself is only 21 and has already played all of Crewe's games thus far, so Mingi will be a great option to use who is not only more experienced but will bring good competition at the back.
