Dan Barden to Join Dagenham & Redbridge From Norwich

Norwich City goalkeeper Dan Barden has agreed a season-long loan move to join Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 24-year-old only has a year left on his Canaries contract.

It is unknown at the moment whether Barden will sign another deal at Norwich, or if he will be a free agent at the end of the loan move.

Barden's Lack of Play Time

The goalkeeper has struggled to usurp the Norwich number one since joining back in 2018, having only made two Championship appearances that came way back in 2020/21, and he has since been relegated back to their Premier League 2 side.

He played more games for Swindon Town in a year than he has done for the Canaries across any age group in seven, having been in goal 16 times for the League Two team for the 2024/25 season, keeping two clean sheets.

Barden also played 14 times throughout Maidstone United's relegation from the National League in 2022/23, conceding 27 goals and keeping no clean sheets in the process.

Bad Start to Dag & Red Takeover

Great optimism was to expected when 'wealthy private Qatari investors' acquired a 100% stake in The Daggers, however this has quickly faded within the first month of the season, with many fans even calling for the manager to go.

With big names such as Andy Carroll joining plus a club that used to be in League Two not so long ago naturally being big enough to dominate the host of semi-professional clubs in the National League South, one win from their opening six to sit only a point above the drop is hardly good enough.

Promosing talent such as Rashawn Scott have already joined, so perhaps a player that has competed in leagues miles better than the sixth tier of English football is what is required to fix a defence that has already conceded 10 goals.
