Danny Murphy Spoils the Mood With Riveting Piece of Commentary About… a Dead Cat

BBC viewers may have been somewhat distracted during Norway's 2-1 win over the Ivory Coast on Tuesday night, as Danny Murphy spoile the mood with a rather depressing cat story from the blue.

The two nations were fighting for a spot in the Round of 16, having both qualified for the knockout stages in recent days. Norway were leading 1-0 at the time thanks to Antonio Nusa, and some substitutions started to be rolled out by manager Stale Solbakken - Alexander Sorloth was replaced with Fulham star Oscar Bobb.
The name of the former Manchester City prospect coming on had caught the attention of Murphy on the BBC's co-comms, with the nine-time England international sharing a blue story about a former pet cat of his, also called Bob.
He said:
“We used to have a cat called Bob. He jumped in the back of a Royal Mail van and they lost him. Quite sad really. Anyway.”
Viewers Depressed by Strange Partridge-esque Anecdote
Viewers were understandably left a little depressed by the random story shared from the former midfielder, with many jumping to social media to point out the sad yet bizarrely-timed anecdote from the 49-year-old.
One posted: “Did I just imagine that bit of commentary by Danny Murphy or did he really just tell an anecdote about his ex cat called Bob.”

Antonio Nusa's first-half strike had Norway leading against the Ivory Coast going into the second half, but Manchester United starlet Amad Diallo would find an equaliser with around 16 minutes left on the clock.

However, the inevitable Erling Haaland is always ready and waiting to pounce, and pounce the viking did. A superb pass from Bobb (not the dead cat) released club-mate Sander Berge into the channel, who picked out the poacher to stab home a goal from close range that would ultimately seal the win for the Scandinavian nation amidst an impressive return to the global stage.
Norway now have a tantalising last-16 clash to look forward to and prepare for - their Round of 32 win against the Ivory Coast has set them up with a meeting against Brazil in New York on Sunday night.
