Dele Ali offered to Monza as former star tries to career back on track

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has been offered to newly promoted Serie A side Monza as he looks to revive a career that once appeared destined for greatness.

It is difficult to separate Alli’s footballing decline from the adversity he has faced away from the pitch. The former England international has spoken openly about his struggles with criticism, addiction and personal trauma, with his 2023 interview with Gary Neville remaining one of the most emotional moments of his career.

That makes the trajectory of his career all the more difficult to comprehend.

Under Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, Alli went from a promising young midfielder to one of the most exciting players in European football. A career that started so brightly should never have been allowed to extinguish like this.

Alli’s last competitive appearance came for Como 1907 on 15 March 2025, when he entered the game as an 81st-minute substitute against AC Milan.

Just ten minutes later, his challenge on Ruben Loftus-Cheek was upgraded from a yellow card to a red, bringing a premature end to his brief appearance.

Those ten minutes were the only football Alli played for Como.

They also remain the only minutes of professional first-team football he has played in the past three seasons.

For a player of his talent, it was never supposed to end like this.

Alli turned 30 earlier this year, and the prospect of returning to the biggest stages of European football or the international scene now feels increasingly remote.

Yet Monza could offer him an opportunity to write a different final chapter. The former Tottenham star has been offered to the newly promoted Serie A side, with manager Ivan Juric potentially holding the key to whether Alli is given one final opportunity to prove that there is still something left in the tank.

One of the most gifted players of a generation may have one last chance. With his career hanging by a thread, Monza could represent one last chance for Alli to get back on the pitch and, perhaps, end his career on his own terms.
