Leicester City are in desperate need of another striker and are now closing in on the signing of Bristol City forward Emil Riis, with Russell Martin reportedly a big admirer of the 28-year-old.

Martin has been looking to strengthen his attacking options for some time, with a lack of goals being one of Leicester’s biggest problems. Their attacking issues have continued into the start of this season, so adding somebody with plenty of Championship experience makes sense.

Riis already knows how to perform at this level, having scored 12 goals and provided three assists in 47 appearances last season. Leicester would therefore be getting somebody who has proven he can score goals in the Championship rather than taking a gamble on a player who still needs time to adapt to English football.

The striker has also fallen down the pecking order at Bristol City this season, playing only 47 minutes across their opening four matches, which suggests a move could suit both Riis and his current club.

Riis Could Give Leicester The Hope They Need Up Front

Bristol City have also strengthened their attacking options, which could open the door for Riis to leave before the transfer window closes and give Leicester the opportunity to bring in a striker they badly need.

One reason Martin is believed to be interested in Riis is what the 6ft 3in striker can offer through the middle. Leicester need a recognised focal point in attack and Riis could provide that while also bringing plenty of experience at this level.

At 28 years old, this would not necessarily be a signing based around future potential. Leicester would instead be bringing in somebody they hope can make an immediate impact and help solve some of the attacking problems that have affected them.

A new striker arguably should have been addressed earlier in the transfer window, but deadline day could now provide Leicester with the opportunity to finally bring in the forward they need.
