Everton 2-2 Man United Match Report & Player Ratings
Manchester United Throw Away Late Win At Everton
Manchester United drew 2-2 with Everton, but for United this is two points dropped, not one point gained.
It was basically a last-minute draw that feels like a loss for Manchester United fans.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles scores an absolute screamer right at the end, but the frustrating part is how United defended it. Hardly anybody was watching the edge of the box, everyone was too packed together, and another stupid defensive mistake ended up costing them.
The defence is still the biggest concern in this Manchester United side.
Leny Yoro was a huge liability after coming on. Michael Carrick brought him on and it just did not feel like the right change for the game. Right now, Ayden Heaven looks like the better and safer option.
Yoro was far too risky, giving the ball away in stupid positions and making United look much less secure at the back.
Senne Lammens is also going to come under criticism after a very unconvincing punch in the build-up to Everton’s first equaliser. He was praised heavily after the Ipswich game, but this was definitely a shakier performance. He could not do much about the second goal, but the first one was poor.
Carrick’s Game Management Is A Big Question Again
Michael Carrick’s game management is once again a massive talking point.
Taking Kobbie Mainoo off and bringing Andrey Santos on completely changed the game in a bad way.
Mainoo is one of those players where you do not always realise how important he is until he is not on the pitch anymore.
Once Mainoo came off, United lost so much control in midfield. The possession dropped, the ball retention disappeared, and Santos just did not bring anywhere near the same level of control.
Bringing Marcus Rashford off for Patrick Dorgu was another frustrating change.
Rashford may not have been the most influential player on the pitch, but when he came off, you definitely noticed it.
The same goes for Matheus Cunha. Yes, he missed some stupid chances, but once he was off the pitch, United lost another big attacking presence.
And once again, Dorgu was being used very high up the pitch, which is something United fans are constantly frustrated about.
Early-Season Inconsistency Continues
The early-season inconsistency is still there.
One loss, one win, one draw.
That is very poor considering the games United have had.
Hull City had only just come up and United lost. Ipswich had only just come up and United got the win. Everton had a shocking 2025/26 season and United still could not see the game out.
That is simply not good enough.
There were positives.
Bryan Mbeumo once again showed how dangerous he can be and how important he is going to be for United this season.
Benjamin Šeško also came off the bench and showed again that he can be a really important super-sub option.
But overall, this game still feels like a massive letdown for Manchester United fans.
