EXCLUSIVE: Sidnei Tavares Set for Wisla After One Season at Blackburn

Football Park exclusively understands that Blackburn holding midfielder Sidnei Tavares is set for a move to Ekstraklasa side Wisla Plock, ending a 12 month stint at Ewood Park, in which he made 15 appearances.

The 24-year-old will join the club on an initial season-long loan, although Wisla do have a buy clause should the player perform well for them over the coming season. With Tavares valued at just over £1 million right now, the clause will sit at or close to this value.

Europe Bound

Signed for £1.7 million from Portuguese side Moreirense last summer, much was expected of Tavares - he had played 30 times for the club in the Portuguese top flight the previous season, and had scored one and assisted another as Moreirense finished sixth, just outside the European spots.

Though he started out well in the Championship, his stint at the club was interrupted by a knee injury sustained in December that would keep him out until March, and once back to fitness, Tavares couldn’t consistently break back into the first team again, with the likes of Adam Forshaw and Taylor Gardner-Hickman picked ahead of him.

The injury also ruined the midfielders chance of being picked for the Cape Verde national team that shocked everyone at the World Cup, drawing with Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia before narrowly losing out to eventual finalists Argentina, a run which endeared the island nation to the entire football sphere.

The loan move to Poland represents an opportunity for Tavares to receive regular senior gametime again, helping him to return to match sharpness, while it is also clear that Blackburn are happy to cut their losses if Wisla Plock decides to make Tavares’ stay a permanent one.

There had been rumours that fellow Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok were showing an interest in the 24-year-old, but despite being by far the bigger team in the Polish top flight, Wisla were able to put in a more attractive offer, securing the former Leicester City man's signature.
