The new look badge appears to have been inspired by the city's historic connections to the pottery industry. The area has been known for its industry-scale pottery manufacturing since the 17th century.
The design closely resembles that of a bottle kiln, with fans expressing their disdain for the change on social media.
Reactions have described the updated badge as ‘awful’ and ‘horrible’ with one fan disappointed that such an iconic badge is being replaced.
Another fan shared his frustration writing ‘why fix what isn’t broken?’.
However, one fan pointed out that the design bore a close resemblance to one used by the club in the 70s and 80s.
Many fans were sharing designs that they had created themselves offering creative and innovative alternatives to the controversial new design.
Crucially it has not yet been confirmed if this new logo will completely replace the current club crest, with some speculating that it will simply be an addition to the new kit.
