FIFA's Embarrassing, Pitiful Fallout from the World Cup Continues as Top Official Resigns in Shame
It’s become common knowledge now that FIFA is a questionable governing body. However, their latest stunt might have been one step too far. It was announced that FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer has left his position, and what he had to say was damning.
After two years with FIFA, Kevin Lamour has decided to leave, and he was quoted as saying that the now-abandoned project of selling part of FIFA was “the project of one person”. His belief was that FIFA should be looking at protecting football and keeping the magic alive. However, this new move by FIFA went against that and was opposed by many people within FIFA.

🗣️ FIFA spokesperson to @talkSPORT: “FIFA can confirm that the working relationship between FIFA and Kevin Lamour as FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer has ended on 17 August 2026.
“FIFA thanks… pic.twitter.com/ljHn1Cy4Nc
However, the most concerning quote from him focuses on FIFA president Gianni Infantino: “A president must bring people together, unite them and inspire them. Today, we are experiencing the opposite.” This one quote tells you everything you need to know about FIFA currently. No matter the person or the rank they hold, Infantino doesn’t appear to be commanding much confidence at the moment.
So, one question remains. Are we going to see a change in FIFA? Will Infantino be removed from power and replaced by someone who is looking out for the best interests of football? Or is this the beginning of the end for FIFA? Have we seen the first domino fall and started a chain reaction?
We will have to wait and find out. However, personally, the sooner everything is settled, the better, especially for football.
