Five Things You May Have Missed in the Premier League This Weekend

After a thrilling Saturday and Sunday of Premier League action, you may have missed some key moments, whether they are in the mainstream media or not.

Officials were thrust back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, one player capped off a dream week with a goal and a couple of others gave their club perfect victories amidst intense transfer sagas.

Here's five things you may have missed from this weekend.

Wilson Isidor's Dream Week Fulfilled

Wilson Isidor had already become a Premier League goal scorer with his strike in the Black Cats' opener against West Ham United, and the Frenchman may have thought that would be as good as it got for him this season.

Well, he would be proven wrong very quickly indeed, just two weeks later to be precise.

Firstly, he celebrated his 25th birthday on Wednesday, a fine occasion for sure, but this was quickly eclipsed by the birth of his daughter two days later to make him a first-time dad.

What better way is there to celebrate two family birthdays with a goal? That is exactly what the Sunderland man delivered, and in emphatic style to steal a 2-1 win for the newly promoted side in the 90+6th minute.

A weekend he will never ever forget.

Paqueta Puts an End to Hammers Exit Rumour

Lucas Paqueta was largely expected to depart West Ham United a couple of seasons ago for Pep Guardiola's dream team, however FA spot-fixing allegations put an end to his dream move - despite him recently being cleared of any wrongdoing.

On Saturday, the usually-reliable Fabrizio Romano revealed that Aston Villa had opened personal talks with the Brazilian and that he was ready to depart the London Stadium, with the Hammers rooted bottom after a 3-0 and 5-1 drubbing in their opening two matches.

With rumours circulating that Paqueta wouldn't travel with the squad on Sunday to force a move to the Villians, he was surprisingly named in the starting XI and scored a penalty to put his side 2-0 ahead in an eventual three-goal win against big favourites Nottingham Forest.

In his goal celebration, which consisted of him mimicking throwing a telephone away and then proceeding to kiss the club badge, the message was clear - he was certainly here to stay (for this window at least).

City Lose Again

City's 2-0 defeat to Tottenham was unexpected given their mauling of Wolves on the opening weekend, despite their recent torrid form against Spurs.

So, many expected them to return to winning ways against a Brighton team who hadn't set the world alight from their first two fixtures.

A penalty from 39-year-old James Milner cancelled out his former team's first-half opener, which was scored by the ever-reliant Erling Haaland.

With a draw moments away, Brajan Gruda showed composure beyond his years to sit both James Trafford and Rayan Ait-Nouri with a fake shot, before slotting into an empty net to seal a memorable win on the South Coast.

Perhaps Guardiola's men aren't as ready to compete for the title as many predicted this season.

Guehi's Perfect Farewell.... Or Not

Much like Paqueta, Marc Guehi was expected to be on his way out before the transfer deadline.

Crystal Palace's Sunday night trip to Villa Park was set up to be a goodbye performance for the fans, and a clean sheet in a 3-0 win was certainly the best way to sign off from The Eagles.

However, the centre-back's night got even sweeter in the 68th minute, as he curled in a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box to grab a rare league goal.

Unfortunately for Guehi though, the proposed move to Liverpool was then called off the next day due to Oliver Glasner's threats to resign due to a lack of centre-back cover if the deal passed through.

VAR Madness

The gift that just keeps on giving - virtually none of us want it here, yet it refuses to budge and throws up howler after howler week in, week out.

Fulham thought they had taken a lead at the home of their West London rivals, as 18-year-old Josh King turned home - However, the goal was chalked off after VAR intervention which judged Rodrigo Muniz to have fouled Trevoh Chalobah in the build up by standing on his ankle whilst in possession.

The argument made was that by standing on Chalobah accidentally, it effectively ruled him out of being able to get back in position and mark the eventual scorer of the goal.

However, head of PGMOL, Howard Webb, later issued an apology to Fulham, as most pundits and fans alike dubbed it 'the worst' decision they'd seen yet.

Later that match, Chelsea won a penalty from Ryan Sessegnon's handball, although there was more controversy as some said Joao Pedro was guilty of a handball in the build up and therefore Fulham should have had a free kick, but this decision was generally accepted to have been fair.

What Else!?!

I'm sure none of you would have missed it given that it was shared millions of times all over social media, hence why I didn't include it in the original five list..

But, in case you somehow turned a blind eye to it, here's Dominik Szoboszlai's stunning goal to win a close-fought encounter in an early potential title clash.
