Football Match Preview: Derby County vs Middlesbrough - Analysis & Insights
Derby County host Middlesbrough in the second week of the Championship season. Derby are looking to bounce back after losing away at Blackburn on the opening night, conceding four goals. Now with their first game at the Baseball Ground since getting promotion, Derby need to kickstart their season to get some points on the board.
Middlesbrough weren't perfect on the opening day, creating numerous chances and failing to convert them. That was until referee Sam Allison pointed to the spot, giving Emmanuel Latte-Lath the opportunity to win the game for Boro and give them their first three points of the season. Taking into account their 3-0 win over Leeds at Elland Road in the Carabao Cup, Middlesbrough are averaging 2 goals a game and are yet to concede this season.
Derby County find themselves 18th in the Championship table with zero points and a goal difference of -2. Obviously the table doesn't fully represent the quality of the sides as we are only one week into the EFL, but Derby will hope they can be in a better position after this match. Derby did find their first win of the season on Tuesday night against Chesterfield in the Carabao Cup, setting up a fixture in the second round away at Barrow.
Middlesbrough are currently 8th in the Championship after their win against Swansea last week. After winning in even greater fashion against Leeds they have progressed in the Carabao cup and are set to face Stoke City in the next round.

Josh Coburn had limited minutes off the bench last time out against Swansea but starred for Boro in their midweek thrashing of Leeds United in the Carabao Cup. The young forard got a goal and assist at Elland Road when given the opportunity to start after playing just five minutes off the bench in Boro's last Championship outing. This season Coburn is averaging 4.23 shots per 90, which are the stats of a hungry player, looking to impress.
