Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has parted ways with Turkish giants Besiktas after his contract was terminated by mutual consent, as per The Sun. The 32-year-old midfielder is now free to negotiate with new clubs, and reports suggest a return to English football could be on the cards - with Birmingham City among the frontrunners.
Birmingham City have already added 10 new players this summer, but are not finished in the market, with Oxlade-Chamberlain emerging as a potential late-window target.
Championship promotion hopefuls see the former England international as an ideal blend of experience and versatility, having played in midfield, out wide, and even as a makeshift full-back during his career.
The Blues’ ambitious ownership, spearheaded by Tom Wagner and supported by minority owner Tom Brady, are hopeful of luring Oxlade-Chamberlain to St Andrew’s. The move would bring the midfielder back to English football two years after leaving Liverpool for Besiktas.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career has spanned Southampton, Arsenal, and Liverpool, where he collected a string of major honours, including the Premier League and Champions League.
His time on Merseyside brought flashes of brilliance, though persistent injuries - most notably a serious knee issue suffered in 2018 - often stopped his momentum.
Jurgen Klopp once reflected:
“Ox is a super guy, an absolutely super guy... in the Roma semi-final when he got injured, I had no idea how to replace him, honestly - Ox was that good.”
The midfielder, also described by Klopp as 'super energetic' and 'technically outstanding', made 146 appearances for Liverpool before his departure in 2023.
His stint in Turkey started brightly with a Turkish Cup triumph, but again faded amid injuries and limited game time, prompting Besiktas to agree a severance package worth around £1.5 million to allow him to leave.

Beyond footballing reasons, a move back to England would also reunite Oxlade-Chamberlain with fiancée Perrie Edwards and their young son. The Little Mix star revealed last year that the couple, despite being together for nearly a decade, had never actually lived under the same roof due to football commitments abroad.
With Birmingham, Leeds, and Leicester all credited with interest, the midfielder may soon find himself back in familiar surroundings.
Whether his next step comes in the Championship or a late Premier League swoop emerges, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s return to English football looks increasingly likely as the transfer deadline approaches.
