Fulham reach agreement to sign Palace defender

Fulham have reached an agreement in principle with Crystal Palace to sign defender Joachim Andersen, according to David Ornstein, who Football Park ranks as a tier one source.

The Danish defender’s centre-back partner Marc Guehi has attracted a lot of interest from big Premier League clubs after his impressive performance at Euro 2024.

However, it now looks as though it will be the 28-year-old to leave the club with Fulham agreeing on a deal worth a reported £30 million with the Eagles.

Why do Fulham want to sign Joachim Andersen?

After spells at both Sampdoria and Olympique Lyon, Andersen first made the move to the Premier League in 2020, joining his potential future employers Fulham on loan. In the year he was at the club, the Danish international made 31 Premier League appearances for the Cottagers as they were narrowly relegated to the Championship. Despite a disappointing end to the campaign, Andersen was a shining light for the team and his impressive performances did not go unnoticed. As a result, he was rewarded with a move to Palace that summer for a fee of £15 million. Much like his first spell in England, Andersen has settled in nicely since his move to south-London and has been a stalwart in the Palace defence. Alongside Guehi, Andersen has formed a formidable partnership which has helped the Eagles establish themselves as a mid-table Premier League side.

Following his remarkable Euro 2024 campaign in which he helped England get to the final, Guehi attracted an abundance of interest from the Premier League’s top clubs. Arsenal, Liverpool and in particular Newcastle were among those interested in the 24-year-old, with the Magpies submitting several bids for his services this summer.

However, it now looks as though the possibility of the England international leaving has diminished with his centre-back partner on the verge of leaving the club to return to Fulham.
