Graham Potter Addresses Man United And England Summer Move Rumours

30/09/24 23:14

Throughout the summer, Graham Potter found himself linked to many different managerial locations. The main two being Manchester United and England.

Manchester United Rumours

Linked to a Manchester United side that had a poor Premier League run but had come out on top against Premier League and local rivals, Manchester City to win the FA Cup in the second ever Manchester Derby FA Cup Final.

Erik Ten Hag had his job hanging on by a thread but with the top of the Red Devils heirachy giving the Dutchman all the backing he needs, the rumours of Graham Potter making the move to Manchester slowly fissile out.

Potter said "They've missed a lot of chances and sometimes teams go through that where you don't start reflecting your xG expected goals, and then a bad day comes along like on Sunday and the clouds come over pretty quickly - that's what they're facing."

Now with Manchester United carrying on their poor form, sitting 11th in the Premier League after a 3-0 hammering by Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, and now 11th in the Europa League after a 1-1 draw with Ten Hag's former club FC Twente, his job seems to have come to threat yet again.

Potter faced this very situation when he was the boss of Chelsea just two seasons ago, but will Erik Ten Hag face the similar end result?

England Rumours

As for England's managerial role, we saw Gareth Southgate step down as England boss after the Euro's Final defeat in Berlin in July and ever since, assistant coach Lee Carsley has stepped up to the plate but only as an interim manager.

When asked about his thoughts on becoming the next England manager, Potter stated "As an Englishman, of course it's a fantastic job but I'm supportive of whatever the FA decide to do and whoever the coach is."

What Is Next For Graham Potter?

Potter has always been one of the first names to pop up whenever a club goes manager-less due to his popularity when he was Brighton head coach as well as his short tenure as Chelsea boss.

Potter heads into his second season without a job since he left Chelsea in April 2023 and has chosen club football over international football but says he is "open to anything".

What is next for Graham Potter and his managerial career or will he join the punditry side of English Football.
