Ipswich reach an agreement to sign Burnley shot stopper

Newly promoted Ipswich Town have reached an agreement with Burnley to sign goalkeeper Arijanet Muric, according to David Ornstein, who Football Park ranks as a tier one source.

The deal is believed to be worth an initial £8 million which could surpass £10 milliom in add-ons.

A medical is currently being arranged for the 25-year-old who played ten Premier League matches for the Clarets last season.

Who is Arijanet Muric?

In Burnley’s 2022/23 Championship campaign, Muric was one of their standout performers. The Kosovo international played 41 matches and kept 19 clean sheets as Vincent Kompany’s men gained promotion to England’s top-flight in emphatic fashion. However, upon their return to the Premier League, Muric did not experience the same success. Ahead of the season, Burnley paid Manchester City £15 million for the services of James Trafford. After enjoying a positive year on loan at Bolton Wanderers, Trafford starred for England at the Under-21s European Championships, saving a last-minute penalty in the final to win the tournament.

When the season got underway, it was obvious that Trafford was Kompany’s first choice and that Muric would be forced to watch on from the sidelines. At first, the Englishman impressed, despite the team struggling to put points on the board. However, as the threat of relegation slowly increased, Kompany decided that a change needed to be made.

With ten games remaining of the season, Muric was given his chance. In his first few matches, the 25-year-old made a huge impression, starring in impressive victories over Brentford and Sheffield United as well as drawing away at Stamford Bridge. However, it was too little too late and despite performances improving, Burnley’s return to the Championship was confirmed with a couple of games left to play.

Although the club failed to stay in the Premier League, Muric held a good account for himself when given the opportunity and showed he is capable of being a top-flight goalkeeper. With The Tractor Boys now reaching an agreement for his signature, it seems Muric will get the opportunity to show his ability over the course of a full Premier League campaign in 2024/25.
