Ipswich Town Ready Loan Bid for Birmingham Striker

Tractor Boys Ready Loan Bid for Blues' Squad Player

Amidst uncertainty as to their chances of signing Sheffield United's Patrick Bamford this winter, Ipswich Town have lined up a move for Birmingham City striker Lyndon Dykes instead, according to Football Insider.

The 48-times-capped Scotland international is looking to nail down a starting position at club level ahead of the 2026 World Cup, as the former QPR forward looks to solidify his spot in Steve Clarke's squad in the United States this summer.

After the arrivals of Kyogo Furuhashi and Marvin Ducksch in the summer, Dykes has found starting minutes at a premium at St. Andrews so far this term after joining from QPR in the summer of 2024 - the Australian-born forward has made just two Championship starts this season, scoring twice from 21 total appearances.

With Ipswich Town initially hopeful of securing a move for Sheffield United's Patrick Bamford at the end of his short-term deal this winter, doubts have been cast over their chances leading them to look into other options, with Dykes identified as a favoured choice.

Ipswich Chase Dykes after Bamford Uncertainty

After making a switch to Birmingham from QPR the summer-before-last, Lyndon Dykes has often had to settle for a bit-part role under Chris Davies, having played behind Jay Stansfield and Alfie May as The Blues walked to the League One title last term.

After Furuhashi and Ducksch were signed this summer, his chances for a starting berth have diminished even further - although the Japan international has been linked with a return to Celtic after an underwhelming time in the West Midlands so far.

Even with his scoring of two crucial stoppage-time winners this season - one apiece against Blackburn and Swansea - Dykes has only mustered up two EFL Championship starts from 21 total appearances this term thus far.

The ex-Livingston star was tagged with a potential move to Preston earlier this season, as well as a return to Scotland through Hibs and Aberdeen in the latest stages of a summer, but moves to either of the three clubs failed to come to fruition leaving Dykes in his bit-part role with the Blues.

However, according to Football League World a striker departure will not go forward in Birmingham unless a replacement was found by Davies before the window was up. But Dykes has been lined up by Ipswich Town on a loan basis, with his contract up in June 2027.
