Ipswich Win the Race While Wrexham Don't See the Hollywood Ending EFL Championship Final Day Roundup: Highlights, Scores and Results

We have finally made it. Match week 46 and there is still everything to play for going into these games for certain clubs as promotion is still more than possible. Here at Football Park, we will be going through every game including all the action and seeing what clubs made the cut to the Premier League and who failed to reach it in the end.

Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Leicester City

Stephy Mavididi 78’

This is a fixture that a few weeks ago would’ve been vital for both sides, Leicester in the relegation zone, Blackburn fighting for survival. However, going into the final game week, it no longer felt that way.

The game was won when Mavididi finally managed to put a shot past Balazs Toth in the 78th minute from a corner. It was a central shot that found the bottom fight corner finally putting Leicester ahead and winning them the game.

Bristol City 2-0 Stoke City

Delano Burgzorg 1’ Sam Bell 88’

This was just a game where Bristol showed their class above Stoke and why they sit ahead of them. It started quick as Bristol took the lead before a minute was even on the clock as Burgzorg found the back of the net. They then doubled their lead in the 88th minute from a corner where Sam Bell found himself scoring from very close range to make it 2-0 and end the game with a strong result.

Derby County 1-2 Sheffield United

Sammie Szmodics 5’ Thomas Cannon 62’ Sydie Pack 69’

This was a must win for Derby if they wanted any chance of a top 6 finish. The game started perfectly for them with them taking the lead from a corner in the 5th minute. However, just after an hour played Sheffield had found a way back as Cannon smashed a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner to level up the game. It was then ended just 7 minute later when Pack found the bottom right corner with a beautiful bit of individual play from outside the box.

It would’ve felt like a massive chance missed for Derby, however, even with the 3 points had they won, promotion was still out of their reach.

Hull City 2-1 Norwich City

Mohamed Toure 26’ Oli McBurnie 29’ Oli McBurnie 67’

Hull needed this to be a win. They were on the edge of getting into the top 6 and needed to hold on for another 90 minutes to give them a chance of returning to the Premier League.

The game didn’t start well for them. With just under half an hour on the clock Toure found himself with space in the middle of the box and managed to find the bottom left corner giving Norwich the lead. However, than just 3 minutes later Oli McBurnie managed to level the game up from the spot and in the 67th minute put Hull ahead. They managed to hold out, and they will now have a chance to fight their way back to the Premier League.

Ipswich Town 3-0 QPR

George Hirst 3’ Jaden Philogene-Bidace 9’ Kasey McAteer 85’

The favourites to get the remaining place in the automatic promotion. They needed all 3 points with both Middlesbrough and Millwall breathing down their necks, this game was the most important game of their season.

The game started perfectly with it almost finished before 10 minutes was on the clock. Hirst put them up with a shot from incredibly close range before the lead was doubled by Philogene-Bidace who found the bottom left corner just 6 minutes later. The game was finally killed off as McAteer found the back of the net to make it 3-0. Ipswich will join Coventry in the Premier League.

Millwall 2-0 Oxford United

Femi Azeez 34’ Femi Azeez 48’

Millwall like Ipswich needed these 3 points. They either found themselves in second or got the more favourable draw in the playoffs. Either way, these 3 points were vital for them to take.

It started off well as Azeez found the top fight corner of the net after a fast attack just after half an hour had been played. He would then double Millwall’s lead 3 minutes after the start to the second half with a goal from a throw in. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough for automatic promotion and Millwall will need to go through the play offs.

Portsmouth 1-1 Brimingham City

Adrian Segecic 8’ August Priske 19’

This was a game where neither team had anything left to play for and it showed. Portsmouth took the lead in the 8th minute as Segecic found the back of the net with a shot from middle of the box. Birmingham would level it up 11 minutes later with a goal from a corner and that’s how it would end.

Preston North End 1-3 Southampton

Talyor Harwood-Bellis ‘12 Ross Stewart 47’ Lewis Dobbin 60’ Cyle Larin 92’

This was a massive game for the Saints as it would see them get their first win in 3 matches just before they enter the playoffs.

It started off perfectly as Harwood-Bellis would allow them to take the lead before Ross Stewart doubled it just 2 minutes after the start to the second half. They did see a minor setback as Lewis Dobbin pushed the lead back to just a single goal. However, in the 93rd minute Larin would put any worries to sleep and end the game 3-1. They will now be heading into the play offs with a win in their most recent match.

Sheffield United 2-1 West Bromwich Albion

Nathaniel Chalobah 36’ Liam Palmer 39’ Karlan Grant 82’

Sheffield finally did it. They will end the season no longer on negative points and that will be an achievement for them. It started well as Chalobah managed to score following a set piece. Liam Palmer would double the lead from a corner. Grant managed to get one back for West Brom, however, it was too little too late and Sheffield walked away with 3 points and will end the season on 0 points.

Swansea City 3-1 Charlton Athletic

Adam Idah 74’ Miles Leaburn 79’ Adam Idah 82’ Leo Walta 88’

This was a game that saw all the action in the last 15 minutes. It would kick off when Idah scored in the 74th minute who found the right corner of the goal. Only 5 minutes later Charlton had a goal of their own as Leaburn scored from a corner to level everything up. Swansea quickly fired back with 2 goals in the final 10 minutes to win this game 3-1.

Watford 0-4 Coventry

Ellis Simms 19’, 43’, 58’ Victor Torp 85’

The newly confirmed champions finished this season in style with a 4-0 victory. Simms would look to end his Championship season off taking the match ball home as he would score a beautiful hat trick before Torp would join him on the score sheet to make it 4-0 and allow Coventry to finish the season off with 95 points.

 Wrexham 2-2 Middlesbrough

Tommy Conway 4’ Josh Windass 28’ Sam Smith 41’ David Strelec 43’

This was a game that ended after the first 45 minutes. It started as Conway found the back of the net after just 4 minutes. Windass would level the game up and then we would see Sam Smith allow Wrexham to take the lead as they could potentially see the history books being written. However, in the 43rd minute hearts were broken as Middlesbrough would level the game up and end their dream of promotions all the way to the Premier League.
