Is the Jack Wilshere Hype Dead? Luton thumped 5-0 Vs Barnsley

A few weeks into his role as first team coach at Luton Town, Jack Wilshere has certainly had a lot of hype around him after a strong start at the club. The ex England international was loved by many in the country, mainly Arsenal fans, in his playing days. So since he's now well into his career in management, he's had plenty of eyes on him, hoping to see another English manager do well. He's had a strong start, with many excited by the prospect of Jack Wilshere being a top quality manager, however that hype may have seriously died down after Luton Town have been absolutely battered 5-0 by Barnsley.

The Luton town side that Wilshere has taken over are coming off the back of two terrible years of football, with back to back relegations from the Premier League to League one. They currently sit 12th in the table after today's result, with the side four points outside of the play-off places. If the Jack Wilshere hype is to be believed, then his side can't be taking 5-0 battering's to his promotion rivals! Barnsley now find themselves 9th following this big result, however the Tykes do have up to three games in hand on the teams above them so they have plenty of potential to be in a great spot in the table if they can build on today's fantastic result.

The first 10 minutes showed that Barnsley were looking likely to dominate this match, with Reyes Cleary scoring after just seven minutes. The goals didn't stop there with Barnsley finding the back of the net another two times before the half time whistle blew. Three goals and two yellow cards conceded in the first half for Luton, Wilshere would've hoped for a lot more, but the misery didn't stop there. The second half was almost an exact carbon copy of the first in terms of pure domination from Barnsley, with the home side scoring another two goals, one through a Gideon Kodoa own goal and one through Davis Kellor-Dunn.

This result followed four wins and a draw in Wilshere's last five games, so he will be given the benefit of the doubt, however Luton Town fans are certainly worried by today's performance, Jack will need to get things back on his side as soon as the next game, however Luton face another play-off rival in Huddersfield. He will not want a repeat of today. We will have to wait and see whether Wilshere's start was purely just that new manager bounce down at Luton, or he actually is a Wenger school of football graduate who has transferred his footballing ability into the managerial role.
