Jamie Bynoe-Gittens: Europe’s Next Best Young Talent

19/09/24 12:30

The UEFA Champions League returned this week and there have been so many standout performers already.

One of those performers was Borussia Dortmund's young star Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.

Two goals in 22 minutes against Club Brugge on Wednesday night has the world watching him closely. But who is Bynoe-Gittens? And why is he Europe’s next best young talent?

Who Is Jamie Bynoe-Gittens?

Gittens is a 20 year old talent stealing the show in Germany right now but he didn’t start there.

In fact, Gittens started in the youth academy of Reading before making a brief switch to Chelsea and eventually joining Manchester City.

However, much like Jadon Sancho, he decided not to extend his contract at City instead joining Dortmund’s academy in 2020.

The COVID pandemic and a serious ligament injury halted his progress but in the 2021/22 season he started really making a name for himself. He scored six goals in just four games - including a brace against Manchester United - in the UEFA Youth League. This earning him a call up to the first team.

Gittens made his first team debut in April 2022 and since then he has been a fairly consistent part of Dortmund’s squad. This including coming off the bench in last season's Champions League final.

Not only this though but Gittens has had a huge impact on an International front as well. He was a part of the England under 19s team that won the European Championships back in 2022 even starting the final.

This season though he has started on fire. Already playing five games for BVB he has four goals to his name suggesting to the world that this could really be his breakthrough season.

Is Gittens Europe’s Next Best Young Talent?

In recent years Borussia Dortmund have made a name for themselves helping develop some of the best young talents in the world. English talents specifically as well.

Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham of course came through at the club and have become big names in European football. The latter especially. And now it seems as though Gittens is next.

Gittens clearly has the ability and you just have to take a look at his appearance in the Champions League against Club Brugge to see that.

Coming onto the pitch with 22 minutes to go Gittens managed two goals from just three shots. Not only this but he also had a 92% pass accuracy, completed two successful dribbles out of four and won four out of his six duals.

These incredible statistics considering how long he was on the pitch. Some fans already crying out for their clubs to sign him.

Gittens has the world excited after his display. If he can keep it up we may well be talking about him for years to come.

Could he be the next Jadon Sancho or Jude Bellingham?
