Scottish giants Rangers have made another approach to sign Wrexham star Josh Windass this summer, according to talkSPORT. This marks the second time this calendar year that they have made a move for the dynamic attacker, but their advances in January were turned down by the Championship side.

Any move would also mark the second time that Windass had plied his trade at Ibrox, with the 32-year-old having played 73 games for the club between 2016 and 2018. He had admitted last year that he had chosen to join Wrexham over a return to Glasgow upon his departure from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of last year.

But after all, another attempt to coax Windass back across the border may be in play this summer, and Gers manager Danny Rohl is the man leading the charge for a reunion with his former player.

Rohl Targets Windass Reunion

Rohl last worked with Windass at Hillborough when both were under the employ of troubled Sheffield Wednesday - the pair spent two seasons with each other as Windass wound up with 50 goals from his five years in Sheffield. Now, a couple of years later, the German boss is seeking a reunion with his old star.

It follows an attempt in January which Wrexham rebuffed.

Windass is still a man in fine form, ending the Championship season as Wrexham's top goalscorer with 16 strikes in the second tier, with the Red Dragons narrowly missing out on the playoffs. No Wrexham player has ever scored that many in England's second tier, and he also helped on five assists from his 41 appearances last term.

Wrexham did not want to sell Windass back in January when Rangers made an approach for him, and it is unknown at this time whether that opinion will change in the summer in regards to letting go of their Player of the Season and top talisman.

Windass Appears to Shut Down Exit Rumours

Windass gave an insight into his immediate future earlier in May, and appeared to shut down any chance of him leaving North Wales this summer.

"Yeah, I signed a three-year deal in the summer. I feel like I had a really good year this year, and yeah, hopefully next year we can go one better."

As Windass said, he signed a three-year contract last summer, tying him down at the Racecourse Ground until 2028.

It means Wrexham are in a strong position when it comes to keeping him at the club amid interest from Rangers, especially if they are aiming to secure a place in the Premier League next season.

This term, the Hollywood-owned side narrowly missed out on a place in the Championship play-offs, finishing seventh. Meanwhile, Rangers finished third in the Scottish Premiership, having failed to remain in the title race with rivals Celtic and Hearts.

Rangers are looking to bolster their attacking options and then some, with popular Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland currently in advanced talks to join Danny Rohl's side this summer. But it appears that they won't be done there, as they seek to bring Windass back to Ibrox along with him.
