Windass Hands Wrexham Major Boost

Wrexham supporters have been handed a major boost ahead of the new Championship campaign after star forward Josh Windass moved to shut down speculation surrounding his future at the club.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man had been linked with a summer exit following an impressive debut season in North Wales, with rumours suggesting interest from both Major League Soccer and Scottish giants Rangers. However, Windass has now made it clear that he remains fully committed to Wrexham’s project despite the club’s painful near-miss in the race for promotion to the Premier League.

After joining Wrexham on a free transfer last summer, Windass quickly established himself as one of the Championship’s standout attacking players. The 31-year-old finished the season as the club’s leading scorer, netting 16 league goals while also contributing five assists in a campaign that saw Wrexham exceed expectations once again.

"I feel like I had a really good year this year, and yeah, hopefully next year we can go one better.

“I was disappointed to obviously miss out of us having such a good season and coming so close, obviously. The closer you get, the worse it feels."

Despite that frustration, the forward insists his focus remains firmly on helping Wrexham bounce back stronger next season.

“Next year we'll be trying our hardest, like we did this year as well, trying our utmost hardest to get to that next level."

Addressing transfer speculation directly, Windass joked that his only planned trip to America would be for a holiday, before reiterating his commitment to the long-term contract he signed upon arriving at the Racecourse Ground.

His comments will come as a huge relief to supporters, particularly given the growing attention Wrexham continue to attract under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
