Kobbie Mainoo Called Up To England Senior Squad

19/03/24 16:26

Manchester United central midfield prodigy, Kobbie Mainoo, has received his first senior England call up by Gareth Southgate.

The Manchester United youngster was left out of Southgate's original side but received a lot of praise from the England boss who said:

"I think Kobbie is doing brilliantly for a young player... We're never slow to put a young player into the seniors, but he's only had a handful of games. You have to be careful in making those decisions at the right time, and ideally we should allow him the space to develop at his own speed."

"He's not at the point in terms of games that Jude Bellingham or Bukayo Saka were when they first came in, but I repeat - he's doing really well, he's a good footballer, some fabulous experience with Man United and looks a good character."

Mainoo was called up to the under 21s but following a fantastic performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup Quarter Finals this past weekend, Southgate had no choice but to give Mainoo the call up he deserved.

He will hope to make his senior debut during one of the friendly games that England play in the upcoming days against Brazil and Belgium.
