The final day of the La Liga season absolutely delivered. There were goals flying in everywhere, European places being decided and some emotional endings across Spain as another dramatic campaign officially came to a close.

Real Madrid ended the season in style with a huge win over Athletic Club, Valencia shocked champions Barcelona and Real Betis gave their fans one final home victory before attention turns towards Europe next season. Elsewhere, there were massive results at both ends of the table as clubs fought for survival and continental football right until the final whistle.

Alavés 1-2 Rayo Vallecano

Rayo Vallecano finished their season with a huge away win against Alavés in a match that had plenty of intensity throughout. Alavés actually started brightly and looked the more dangerous side early on, but Rayo slowly grew into the game and became far more clinical in the final third.

The visitors punished Alavés defensively on multiple occasions and looked dangerous every time they broke forward with pace. Alavés did manage to pull a goal back late on and pushed hard for an equaliser in the final minutes, but Rayo defended strongly under pressure and held on for all three points.

It was a really solid way for Rayo to end the campaign after a difficult middle part of the season. For Alavés though, there will definitely be frustration because they created enough opportunities to get something from the game but lacked quality in the key moments.

Celta Vigo 1-0 Sevilla

Celta Vigo signed off their season with a narrow but deserved win over Sevilla in a pretty tense encounter. The home side controlled large spells of possession and looked the more aggressive side throughout the match, while Sevilla really struggled creatively going forward once again.

The breakthrough eventually came after sustained pressure from Celta, and honestly it had been coming. Sevilla looked flat for most of the afternoon and barely threatened consistently in attack despite chasing the game for long periods.

The atmosphere inside Balaídos was brilliant as the final whistle went because Celta fans know their side have made huge progress this season. Sevilla meanwhile just looked relieved for the season to finally be over after another frustrating campaign filled with inconsistency.

Espanyol 1-1 Real Sociedad

Espanyol and Real Sociedad played out an entertaining draw in a game that both sides probably feel they could have won. Sociedad started the stronger and controlled possession well early on, but Espanyol slowly fought their way back into the match with some really aggressive pressing.

The home crowd were fully behind Espanyol and every attack felt dangerous once momentum swung their way. Sociedad still carried a threat on the counter attack though and both goalkeepers were forced into some important saves throughout the game.

In the end, a draw probably felt fair overall. Espanyol showed plenty of fight while Sociedad lacked a bit of sharpness in the final third. It was not the craziest game of the day, but definitely one with a proper competitive edge from start to finish.

Getafe 1-0 Osasuna

Getafe finished the season with a classic Getafe performance honestly. Tight defensively, physical all over the pitch and absolutely horrible to play against. Osasuna struggled massively to break them down despite seeing plenty of the ball throughout the match.

The winning goal came after a scrappy spell inside the box and from there Getafe completely leaned into game management mode. Fouls, slowing the tempo down and frustrating Osasuna every few minutes... it was peak Getafe football.

Osasuna pushed late on but never really looked convincing enough in the final third to force an equaliser. For Getafe, ending the season with a win at home was the perfect way to close things out in front of their supporters. Osasuna have narrowly survived this season on goal difference, as Mallorca join level with them on 42 points.

Girona 1-1 Elche

Girona and Elche shared the points in a match that had an end-of-season feel to it at times. Girona had more of the ball and looked technically sharper throughout large spells, but Elche stayed organised and defended well when under pressure.

The game opened up massively in the second half with both teams creating some really decent opportunities. Girona looked like they might grab a late winner after pushing numbers forward, but Elche remained dangerous on the counter attack and nearly stole it themselves right at the end.

This result caused heartbreak for Girona as they are relegated from La Liga. A win today would have seen them safe following results elsewhere.

Real Betis 2-1 Levante

Real Betis gave their fans a brilliant ending to the season with an entertaining win over Levante. The atmosphere inside the stadium was fantastic from the start and Betis played with loads of attacking intent throughout the game.

Levante actually caused plenty of problems on the break and made things nervy at times, but Betis always looked like the more dangerous side going forward. Their movement in the final third was sharp and they fully deserved the three points by the end.

This result caps off another strong season for Betis as they continue establishing themselves as one of the most entertaining sides in Spain. Levante meanwhile showed flashes of quality but simply could not defend consistently enough against the pressure.

Real Madrid 4-2 Athletic Club

Real Madrid ended their season in style with a brilliant attacking display against Athletic Club. This game honestly felt like a celebration at times because Madrid were playing with freedom and confidence right from the opening whistle.

Athletic Club definitely had their moments and caused problems going forward, but every time they threatened, Madrid seemed to respond instantly with another dangerous attack of their own. The quality in the final third from Real Madrid was just ruthless at times.

The crowd absolutely loved it and the result sends Madrid into the summer with loads of momentum despite not winning the title this season. Athletic Club fought hard throughout but simply could not live with Madrid’s attacking quality once the game became stretched.

Mallorca 3-0 Real Oviedo

Mallorca comfortably swept aside Real Oviedo with one of their best performances of the season. They looked sharper, stronger physically and far more dangerous throughout almost the entire game.

Oviedo really struggled defensively whenever Mallorca attacked down the flanks and the home side fully took advantage. Once the second goal went in, the game honestly felt finished because Oviedo offered very little response going forward.

For Mallorca, this was the perfect final day performance in front of their supporters. Clinical in attack, solid defensively and fully in control from start to finish. This wasn't enough to keep them up however, they are relegated from La Liga on goal difference.

Valencia 3-1 Barcelona

Valencia produced one of the shocks of the final day with a huge home win over Barcelona. Even though Barça had already wrapped up the title, this was still a massive statement performance from Valencia against the champions.

Barcelona controlled possession for large spells as expected, but Valencia looked absolutely deadly every time they countered forward. Their pace in transition caused Barça huge problems all game and the atmosphere inside Mestalla became electric once the home side got themselves ahead.

Barcelona still created chances and had moments where they looked dangerous, but defensively they were all over the place at times and Valencia punished them brilliantly.

A massive result for Valencia to end the season and one their fans will remember for a long time.
