LAFC Sign Leo Walta On Loan From Swansea

LAFC have signed Leo Walta on loan from Swansea City for the rest of the 2026 MLS season, with the deal also including an option to make the move permanent.

The 23-year-old Finland international only joined Swansea permanently in July, having initially arrived on loan from IK Sirius earlier in the year, which makes the timing of this move particularly interesting.

Walta already has 14 senior caps for Finland, scoring once and providing three assists, and arrives in MLS with plenty of senior experience despite his age.

His best form came in Sweden, where he scored 16 league goals for IK Sirius during the 2025 season, setting a club record for goals in a single Allsvenskan campaign. Across two seasons, he scored 23 league goals in 59 appearances.

LAFC Move Could Give Walta Fresh Start

This move could suit Walta better than remaining on the fringes at Swansea, especially after making only limited appearances since joining permanently.

He featured 11 times in the Championship during his initial Swansea loan spell, scoring once, before making just one league appearance and one Carabao Cup appearance at the start of this season.

LAFC could now give Walta a much clearer route to regular first-team football while also providing him with the chance to build his reputation in MLS.

At 23, consistent minutes are crucial for his development, and a strong spell in Los Angeles could either convince LAFC to make the move permanent or put Walta in a much stronger position if he eventually returns to Swansea.

The biggest question is whether this becomes a genuine long-term move or simply another step in his development after such a short permanent spell in Wales.
