Sheffield United have sealed a season-long loan deal for Liam Kitching, with the 26-year-old Coventry City centre-back completing his medical ahead of joining the Blades.

Kitching has been at Coventry since 2023 and has built a reputation as a consistent and important part of their defence.

This looks like a very logical signing for Sheffield United. They have been trying to strengthen at centre-back and had looked at other options, including Joe Worrall, before turning to Kitching.

He brings plenty of Championship experience and played a major role in Coventry’s promotion-winning season, making 38 league appearances and scoring twice.

A loan move therefore gives him the chance to play regularly again, prove his quality and potentially put himself back in contention at Coventry in the future.

Sheffield United need more defensive stability. They have started the season unbeaten in their first five competitive matches but are still searching for their first Championship win.

That means improving the back line could be just as important as strengthening the attack, especially if the Blades want to start turning draws into victories.

Kitching already knows what it takes to succeed at this level after an excellent season with Coventry, and he brings both experience and a winning mentality.
