Jurgen Klopp’s time at Liverpool has been a resounding success. After joining the reds in October 2015, the German coach has won almost everything there is to win at the club. The Champions League triumph of 2019 and the long awaited Premier League trophy win of 2020 were two of the biggest highlights of his reign.

A key aspect of Jurgen’s management has been the relationships he’s cultivated with the players. The vibes around the dressing room have always been very good in Liverpool and there are very rare cases of players being unhappy at the club. Hence, when Klopp finally announced his Liverpool departure in January 2024, there were bound to be unhappy faces in the dressing room. Two players however were reportedly “hitting the ceiling” after hearing the news.

One of those players is Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan striker joined the club in 2022 and his time at there so far has consisted of many ups and downs so far. However, he has looked very good this season and has improved on many facets of his game. Klopp is famous for helping his players reach new heights and the same is true for Darwin. Hence, it makes sense that the striker is upset with the news.

The other player is the new signing Dominik Szoboszlai. The Hungarian joined the club on a long term deal till 2028 and rejected huge offers to join the club. The player is having a decent campaign at his new club although there are certain things he still has to improve on. The midfielder is understandably upset with the new revelation because Klopp was a major factor in his decision to join the reds. He still has a high stock with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, most notably Read Madrid.

Despite both of them being unhappy with the new situation, there have been no real talks for a departure as of yet. They both have long term contracts at the club and Liverpool counts on both of them for the future as of now. The situation will be looked at in the summer, after the new manager is announced. For now, the team is focused on ending the season well and giving the best possible farewell to Klopp. They are locked in an intense title race with Manchester City and Arsenal. After that, the cases of these players will be revisited. For now, time to think about football.
