Luis Suarez Anfield Bound?!
Liverpool Set to Bring Luis Suarez to Anfield
I had to do a double take when I read this too, but it’s no joke – Luis Suarez looks set for Merseyside. The only catch? It’s not the Luis Suarez you’re thinking of.
Instead, we are speaking about the Sporting Lisbon striker that shares the same name as the Uruguay, Barcelona and Liverpool legend, a Colombian who has filled the gaping hole left by the departed Viktor Gyokeres with flying colours.
The 28-year-old has been in flying form for the Portuguese outfit this season, with his 24 league goals and 33 across all competitions helping them to second in the Liga Portugal, seven points adrift of league leaders and rivals FC Porto.
Of course, any striker with numbers like that in March is going to be attracting some high-profile attention, and despite buying both Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak for a combined fee of £205 million, Liverpool seem to be leading the race.

Allegedly, the Colombian has a release clause of £69 million in his contract, but as with Viktor Gyökeres last summer, Portuguese sides have shown that they are willing to accept less than that number – a fee of around £50 million is thought to be a price Sporting will accept.
Liverpool have had history with the Portuguese league, with their most recent acquisition from that part of Europe also being a South American striker, Darwin Núñez.
The Uruguayan had a hit-and-miss spell at Anfield, impressing with his electric pace and ability to create and score out of nothing, but with his profligate finishing, at times clumsy approach and disciplinary issues, he never got out of second gear, moving to Saudi Arabia two years after arriving.
Could Suarez succeed in the Premier League? It’s hard to say – predecessor Gyökeres has had to suffer heavy scrutiny thanks to his early-season performances, but recent showings suggest he is starting to find his feet in England. However, much will depend on his and Colombia's performance at this summer's World Cup.
The swede notched some superb numbers in Portugal himself, scoring a whopping 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting before heading to North London, and with Suarez managing similar output, all the signs point to a player who can take his goals anywhere.
If he does end up at Anfield, let’s all hope the 28-year-old doesn’t turn into the next Darwin Nunez.
