Luke Shaw slams fans for questioning his loyalty

28/05/24 08:55

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has hit back at fans on social media after some people began to question his loyalty to the FA Cup winners.

The 28-year-old took to instagram to firstly congratulate his teammates for winning the trophy before directing comments to the Red Devils’ fan base.

He said: “I don't react to things I see on social media but there are a lot of people questioning my loyalty to this club and asking how I am fit for England but not United.

“The reality is I am not 100 per cent fit for either right now but I am doing everything I can and constantly working to be. I have been at this club for 10 years through highs and lows and for anyone to question my loyalty is obviously frustrating.”

It has been a difficult season for Shaw, who has only managed 12 Premier League appearances this campaign amidst a number of injuries and setbacks.

The fullback has been named in Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad for the European Championships however the England manager did admit that including Shaw was a “long shot”.

The England team will be cut down to 26 players following friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland next month, and it is likely that Shaw will not be retained.
