Reading or should I say, Jack Marriott, produced a simply brilliant peformance at home to play-off rivals, Wycombe Wanderers as Reading climb to within three points of Huddersfield who occupy the final play-off spot.

That win now makes it three wins in Readings last four games as they’re looking to build some momentum and make a play off push in hopes to return to the Championship for the first time since 2023.
However lets focus on the man of the moment, Jack Marriott. The 31 year old produced some magic at the Madejski Stadium. With goals in the 8th, 44th and eventually a 74th minute winner as he completed his fourth senior career hat-trick and first in a Reading shirt.
His first was a smartly taken goal, the ball makes its way into the box from Lewis Wing but the Wycombe defence seemed to fall asleep which led to Marriott reacting quickest as he pounced on the ball and effortlessly dinks it over Will Norris to make it 1-0.

Right on the stroke of half time it’s once again another error in the Wycombe defence that leads to Marriotts second. A lofted ball finds it’s way to Aaron Morley on the halfway line and he controls it horribly and Marriott makes the most of it as he takes the ball away and runs in on goal. The Wycombe defenders try and catch up but the 31 year old is too quick and rifles it into the back of the net as he beat Norris at his near post.

Wycombe would then go on to score twice to bring the game back to 2-2 thanks to goals from each of the centre backs, Anders Hagelskjaer and Dan Casey.
However just two minutes after Wycombe equalised it was that man again, Jack Marriott who saved the best for last as he is played through by Charlie Savage, the angle wasn’t in his favour but it’s pure class from Marriott as he hits it with the outside of his foot to bend it past an out stretched Will Norris as Reading save themselves after bottling a two goal advantage just two minutes before.
WHAT A GAME! 🤯

Reading saw off any late comeback from Wycombe, and are now unbeaten at home across their last six games, going back to a 2-1 defeat to Peterborough back on the 9th of December being their last defeat at home.
Wycombe still remain in the hunt for the play-offs as they sit six points off of Huddersfield in sixth, however a win today would of seen them replace Reading in seventh and they themselves would have been just three points from Huddersfield.
