Manchester City Remain in Talks Over Blockbuster £120m Fernández Deal

Manchester City and Chelsea remain in talks over a blockbuster deadline-day move for Enzo Fernández, but an agreement is yet to be reached.

The Premier League rivals are negotiating over the Argentina international as City attempt to lure the Chelsea captain away from Stamford Bridge before Tuesday's 11pm deadline.

The Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg reports that talks remain ongoing between the two clubs, although an agreement is yet to be reached.

City have stepped up their pursuit of the Fernández after opening direct club-to-club talks with the London side over a move for the 25-year-old.

Chelsea have reportedly rejected a £120 million offer, although negotiations have continued and Fernández is understood to be keen on making the move to the Etihad Stadium.

A move to the Etihad would also reunite Fernández with City manager Enzo Maresca, having previously worked under the Italian at Chelsea before Maresca's departure from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's willingness to sanction a departure could also depend on their ability to secure a replacement before the transfer window closes.

The Blues have already moved to identify potential replacements, with Roma's Manu Koné and Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara among the names linked with moves to Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea have reportedly seen an opening €45 million bid for Camara rejected by the Ligue 1 side, potentially complicating any late departure for Fernández.

Fernández has been at Stamford Bridge since joining Chelsea from Benfica for £107 million in January 2023, having helped Argentina win the World Cup just weeks earlier.

With negotiations continuing and no agreement yet in place, City now face a race against time if they are to complete one of the biggest moves of the summer before the transfer window shuts.
