Manchester City vs Newcastle United is set to be one of the most exciting FA Cup clashes this weekend. The two sides have developed quite the battle over recent years. But with Eddie Howe's desperation for Geordie success and Pep Guardiola aiming for another treble, who will come out on top?

Manchester City vs Newcastle United stats

Believe it or not, Newcastle have already beaten Manchester City in a cup this season. An Alexsander Isak goal was the difference in the EFL Cup back in September. And despite the shock Howe felt when found out he'd be playing the top-flight champions for the fourth time this campaign, they'll have to do it all over again if they are to get that step closer to Wembley.

In Newcastle's last 10 games against this weekend's opposition, they've only won once, drawn once, and lost eight. Away from home, which they are on Saturday, they haven't beaten City since 2014. Also, in the League Cup.

Last time out, it was youngster Oscar Bobb who snatched the winner for the Blues in the 91st minute after a valiant effort from Newcastle at the Etihad. They did lead the tie 2-1 for over 30 minutes, but couldn't stop the home side.

So far this season, Manchester City's top scorer is of course Erling Haaland with 29 goals and 6 assists in 32 games. Whilst Phil Foden is on 18 goals and 10 assists in 40 matches in 2023/24. Julian Alvarez is close behind on 16 conversions.

For the visitors, it's Alexander Isak's 16 goals leading the way in an underwhelming season so far. Anthony Gordon has 10 goals and 5 assist s. Whilst Callum Wilson has scored eight times.

Manchester City vs Newcastle United standings

Manchester City welcome the visitors as champions of the FA Cup after defeating rivals Manchester United in last season's final. Completing the Treble. They've won the tournament on three occassions since 2010, and six times since the club was founded. Pep Guardiola's side have made at least the semi-final since 2018.

This Saturday's quarter-final tie is the first time Newcastle have gone this far in the competition since 2020, when they faced Manchester City. They lost 2-0. In their entire history, the away side have won the competition four times.

Newcastle's electric 2022/23 season was always going to be hard to match, but most would assume they'd be higher than 10th in the league with only 10 games to go. Qualifying for Europe this time round will be a stretch, an FA Cup winning season though, would fix that problem.
