Manchester City vs Real Madrid | Match Preview

16/04/24 11:29

With the final of the Champions League next month, Real Madrid travel to the blue side of Manchester as they seek to get revenge after suffering a 4-0 demolition to eventual winners last season, Manchester City.

The winner of this tie will go on to be the competition's favourite to go all the way and add another Champions League trophy to their cabinets.

After what was the game of the season in the first tie, it is still all to play for after a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu means that it is all to play for at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

In the first leg, both sides came from behind to lead the match before the other side eventually levelled the scoring with a whirlwind of world class strikes from a catalogue of the world’s best players.

Manchester City team news:

Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake are back and edging closer to full fitness after weeks on the sidelines due to injuries suffered on international duty. Both players were on the bench for City’s 5-1 victory over Luton. Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Grealish and Foden will all be certain starters after being left out of the starting line up against Luton.

Real Madrid team news:

Courtois and Alaba are the only absentees from the Madrid squad and will be for the remainder of the season. Tchouameni will be out of the squad due to the suspension he picked up in the first leg. It is expected that Nacho Fernandez will be starting in his place and will partner up with Rudiger as they seek to keep Haaland quiet again.

Madrid rested Vinicius, Rodrygo, Kroos and Dani Carvajal on the weekend in preparation for City as they are set to start the fixture in hope to finally beat the reigning champions on their home turf.

Match Prediction:

It will be a match that fans will remember for years to come and will add to their European rivalry that has been building up for the last 5 years. Both sides will give it their all but you saw what Madrid tried with their roof, the fans in white, and the overall atmosphere in that first leg… City were not discomforted one bit, if anything it spurred them on.

Last season's 4-0 victory that sent City to their second ever Champions League final will be engraved into the minds of all 22 players when they step onto that pitch but Real Madrid are going to a fortress.

Our prediction is 3-1 to City. Not a biased take at all…
