After a rollercoaster season, Manchester United are coming to the end of the Premier League season in a rare lack of panic.
With two games left of the domestic campaign, the club have sealed their return to Champions League football and are on course for their best finish since 2023 as the Red Devils currently sit in third.
Michael Carrick, the popular interim manager of the club since January, has received wide plaudits for his work upon his return to the club and is looking likely to be named the club's permanent new manager. Suitably, attention is now swivelling in Manchester towards bolstering the squad.
And, with the Old Trafford upper levels beginning to formulate these summer plans, Manchester United are set to make a move to Portugal for a stab at a former signing of ex-boss Ruben Amorim.
Maxi Araujo Targetted by United
As per Portuguese source A Bola, Manchester United are one of three Premier League teams to have held early talks with Sporting star Maxi Araujo going into the summer, with a view to a summer move.
Araujo has garnered interest on the back of a brilliant individual campaign which has seen him impress in the Champions League - he made 11 continental appearances this season, netting twice and providing an assist from a primary left-back position.

Chelsea and Tottenham are believed to be the other two Premier League sides interested in the 26-year-old, but sides elsewhere in Europe are set to join the chasing pack for the defender, namely beaten Champions League semi-finalists Atletico Madrid.
Juventus have also contacted Araujo's camp, and all six clubs are believed to have spoken directly to Araujo's agents. However, the report from Portugal also states that all interested parties are wary of a price inflation owing to the heavy interest in the Uruguay international this summer.
Sporting are set to require suitors to meet the £70m+ release clause that is currently present in the player's current contract.
Araujo a Valuable Asset
Whether any of the interested clubs will meet the hefty asking price or not is a big question, but Sporting will be likely to gather a very healthy profit on a player that cost them just north of £10m from Mexican side Toluca back in 2024, just before Amorim made his way to Old Trafford.

Araujo is valued at £22.7m by Transfermarkt, and the pressing matter where Manchester United are concerned will be how highly they rate him amongst a left-back contingency that involves Luke Shaw, who may be in need of replacement sooner or later.
If the Red Devils deem Araujo suitable, there is everything to suggest he would be a fine addition to a squad now holding promise.
