Manchester United Monitoring Bayern Munich Star

Florian Plettenberg, who Football Park rates as a tier one reliable source, has reported that Manchester United are keeping tabs on Matthijs de Ligt.

The Dutchman joined Bayern Munich from Juventus in 2022 for ā‚¬67 million. Although heā€™s been a key player for the Bavarian giants, heā€™s struggled with injuries this year.

De Ligt came through the Ajax academy, and really thrived as a youngster in the Eredivisie. He became the youngest player to represent the Dutch national team since 1945, and picked up the ā€˜Golden Boy Awardā€™ in 2018.

United manager, Erik Ten Hag, worked with De Ligt at Ajax. Heā€™s a big fan of the centre-back, and The Red Devils are said to be in the market for a player in his position this summer. Following Raphael Varaneā€™s departure, United need a quality right-footed centre-half to partner Lisandro Martinez long term.

Sky in Germany are reporting that Bayern would listen to offers for De Ligt this summer, with Hiroki Ito and Jonathan Tah expected to join them this summer.

However, De Ligt has publicly stated that he isnā€™t currently listening to transfer speculation as his focus is on the upcoming Euros. De Ligt will need to compete with Stefan de Vrij and Micky Van de Ven, in order for a starting role next to Van Djik and Ake in the Netherlandā€™s defence this summer.
