Manchester United v Everton | Match Preview

Manchester United take on Everton at Old Trafford in the early Premier League kick off Saturday afternoon with both sides looking to respond after disappointing results in their previous games.

Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United took a heavy beating in their last game losing 3-1 to a dominant Manchester City side. If not for a Marcus Rashford screamer and some heroics in goal from goalkeeper Andre Onana it could have very easily ended worse than it did.

The defeat was far from ideal with the Red Devils falling further out of the top four race. Especially considering the teams above them, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, continue to pick up valuable points.

United’s opponents Everton also suffered a difficult loss in their last game. Losing at the hands of former manager David Moyes as West Ham beat them 3-1 at Goodison Park.

This game will be key for them though as they look to move further away from the relegation zone. Their 10-point deduction being reduced certainly helped with that but three points could be incredibly crucial moving forward as well.

The last time these two sides faced one another the game ended in a Manchester United battering. A 3-0 win for the away side thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Rashford and Anthony Martial. Garnacho’s goal in particular taking the headlines as he scored a Puskas award worthy overhead kick.

It’s not just the last game that Man United dominates either with the Red Devils winning 94 of the 212 meetings between the two. The Toffees only winning 71.

If that wasn’t enough Everton also haven’t beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford since December 2013. A game that was won by a 86th minute Bryan Oviedo winner. This game marked the first time they had won at Old Trafford in 21 years before even that. Their record at the ground is atrocious.

However, there may be some hope for Everton with the last side travelling to the ground, Fulham, managing to beat them there - despite a long run without a win in the stadium. Could Everton match that and end this winless run?

In terms of team news, Manchester United continue to be plagued with injuries, as they have done for the vast majority of the season so far. They will be without key players such as Luke Shaw, Rasmus Højlund, Lisandro Martinez, Aaron Wan Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia and Mason Mount - to name a few.

However there is some positive news for them as Martial returned to training this week. On the surface to many football fans that may not seem all that important however Martial loves playing against the Toffees. In 17 games in all competitions against them in which he has featured Martial has nine goals and five assists. More goal involvements than he has against any other team.

Everton will be without both Arnaut Danjuma and Dele Alli who aren’t expected to return until the end of the month. Much like United with Martial, there is some positive news for Sean Dyche’s side though with Idrissa Gueye potentially being fit to return in this game following his hip injury.

In this game, we would expect a home win for Manchester United. With two tough results on the bounce as well this side will surely be more motivated than ever to win the game and take all three points. Especially in front of a home crowd. Everton’s recent woes as well as their record at Old Trafford anyway surely doesn’t give them much hope for a result in this game.
