Matt Le Tissier slams England’s “dismal performance” against Denmark
Ex-Southampton midfielder Matt Le Tissier has bemoaned England’s draw against Denmark, describing it as “not inspiring” and “dismal”.
The Three Lions’ second group stage game in the Euros ended 1-1, after Morten Hjulmand’s long range effort cancelled out Harry Kane’s opener.
1-1 Denmark.

England were a pace off Denmark throughout the game, misplacing passes and losing possession too easily. Le Tissier believes that Denmark should have really taken advantage of England’s performance.
“Even that first half, when we went one-nil up, we still didn’t really look like we were going to dominate the game.
“It always felt like Denmark had a chance in there and for the 90 minutes really, you look at that, we were probably a little bit fortunate to get a draw. I thought Denmark were the better team.”
But why were England so poor? With the players that Gareth Southgate has at his disposal, being second best against Denmark simply isn’t good enough.

The playing surface has been talked about a lot, and it did seem to cause problems, but Le Tissier said that it was not the main issue.
“Denmark didn’t misplace as many passes as we did, so I think we just looked a bit lethargic all over the pitch.
“Denmark looked that yard sharper than us and I think we did well to get a point in the end.”
Looking forward to the final group game against Slovenia on the 25th, Le Tissier thinks that changes need to be made.

“Gareth’s got a lot of thinking to do. I think he’ll probably be considering changing the shape of the team.
“He’ll probably be thinking about changing the wide players right from the start and there’s a lot of things that, over the next four or five days, he’s going to have to contemplate.
“I think if you start with that team again, I don’t think there’ll be a lot of confidence amongst the fans.”
The Three Lions face Slovenia in their final group game, who have managed two 1-1 draws in both of their games so far.
