Morata Makes Hints On His Future With Atlético

Atlético Madrid’s Álvaro Morata still has a contract with the Spanish side until 2026 but has recently indicated that his future might not be with the club.

The forward joined Atlético in 2020 after spending a year on loan there from Chelsea. In the last season, he played for the Spanish side in 32 games scoring 15 goals and getting four assists.

Nonetheless, he only started 55% of these matches and mainly shared his position with Frenchman Antoine Griezmann and this might become a problem for the Spanish international now.

A couple of weeks ago he told El Larguero in an interview:

“I see on the press that Atlético Madrid wants to sign eight strikers, I will be clear … it looks like I’m not the priority of the club.

”I’ll turn 32 in October, I can’t stay at Atlético and not play, not being the priority”.

He made this statement just days after Atlético apparently showed an interest in signing Manchester City striker Julián Álvarez.

Since then, the 2024 European Championships have started and Morata is in Germany as captain of the Spanish national team, which seem to have good chances of winning the tournament.

In the group stage, he started for Spain twice and scored once. It seems like in the national team he still gets the playing time that he wants.

Now, just before the knockout stage begins, he talked about his future at the Spanish club again.

In an interview with Chiringuito he said:

“I don’t know if I’ll stay at Atléti. I’ve received messages from many at the club, but not from Cholo (Diego Simeone).”

To some, the fact that his coach has not said anything yet might seem worrying but Morata went on to say:

“I know Simeone perfectly well, if he didn’t count on me, he would have called me.”

As of now, it is difficult to say whether Morata will stay with the club or not due to the different statements he made, indicating different things.

Once the Euros are over, it is almost certain that conversations will and have to be held regarding Morata future.
