Mourinho Eyes Champions League Glory with Saint-Maximin

They came agonizingly close last season, finishing as runners-up, but now they have a new ace up their sleeve. Allan Saint-Maximin is set to join Jose Mourinho's squad, offering a tantalizing prospect of Champions League football in the coming season.

Mourinho has already been busy in the transfer market, bringing in former Leicester defender Caglar Soyuncu, AC Milan midfielder Rade Krunic, and Turkish full-back Levent Mercan. Now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the deal for Saint-Maximin is done and dusted.

Saint-Maximin, who joined a Saudi Pro-League club last summer as one of the few under-30 signings, might be eager to return to the European spotlight at the age of 27. The allure of playing at the highest level, particularly the Champions League, is understandably strong.

Last season, Saint-Maximin was a key player for Al-Ahli, notching up four goals and providing 10 assists as they secured a third-place finish in the Saudi Pro-League. His flair and creativity could be just what Mourinho needs to push his team over the line.

There's also a financial subplot to this transfer. It's unclear whether Newcastle United, his previous club, stand to gain from any contract clause if the transfer fee surpasses the £23 million they sold him for.

With the new season on the horizon, all eyes will be on Saint-Maximin to see if he can help Mourinho’s squad achieve Champions League success.
