Newcastle Bid for Relegated Goalkeeper

According to Keith Downie, a tier 2 reliable reporter, Newcastle have made a £15 million bid for James Trafford.

It’s expected that Burnley will reject the bid. They are hoping for closer to £20 million for the ‘keeper, who they signed last summer from Manchester City, in order to make profit on the youngster.

Newcastle are keen to sign a goalkeeper in the summer window, to compete with Nick Pope for a starting role. Pope has struggled this season with injuries, so having two decent ‘keepers seems a good option.

Trafford appeared in 28 of Burnley’s 38 Premier League fixtures last year, and kept two clean sheets. He competed with fellow former Manchester City ‘keeper Arijanet Muric for the number one spot at Turf Moor.

They have also shown interest in both Aaron Ramsdale and Girogi Mamardashvili, but both options have been considered to be too expensive. Given the Magpies current issues with PSR, it’s probably the right call.

In order to comply with PSR, it looks as if Newcastle will have to reluctantly sell the highly-rated teenager, Yankuba Minteh. Minteh has impressed on loan at Feyenoord this season, scoring 10 and providing six assists in the Eredivisie.

Newcastle are also looking to bulk up their squad with the free signing of Bournemouth defender, Lloyd Kelly, after missing out on Tosin Adarabioyo to Chelsea.
