Neymar set to rejoin former club after his contract runs out in 2025

Neymar has been around in the footballing world. After moving from Santos to Barcelona to Paris, Neymar then shocked the world when he joined Saudi League side Al Hilal in the summer of 2023.

The club paid PSG €90m for the services of the Brazilian star. Neymar is reportedly earning a salary of over £138m per year at the club and signed a two year deal.

Despite the huge amounts of money involved in the deal, Neymar’s time at Al Hilal has been a disaster so far. Neymar only made 5 appearances in total for his new club, before tearing his ACL during a friendly game for Brazil in October.

The 32 year old may be able to return to action in late April but no proper timelines can be quoted as of now.

According to recent reports in the media, Neymar has already decided his next destination once his contract runs out in 2025 and it’s a former club of his. It’s not Barcelona but its Santos, the club where Neymar rose to fame before eventually making his move to Barcelona in 2013.

The club is struggling and the return of one of their most famous sons could help relaunch them on and off the pitch. Neymar still carries a lot of love for his boyhood clubs and even attends their games from time to time.

However, reports say that Santos will not be the only club interested in Neymar’s signature next summer. Despite his injury problems, the 32 year old is still one of the best players in the world when he’s fit and he offers a commercial opportunity like no other.

Barcelona were reportedly interested in him during the summer of 2023 as well but Xavi reportedly vetoed the decision of signing him. With Xavi set to leave in the summer of 2024, perhaps the Catalan club could set their sights on a reunion again. Neymar has expressed his desire to return in the past as well.

Whilst the media speculates about his future, the Brazilian is currently focused on nursing himself back to fitness. ACL tears can leave both mental and physical scars on a footballer. He is yet to return to training but it’s expected to be soon. It will be huge boost for Al Hilal and their fans, who’ve been dying to see more of their star man.

For now, Neymar is focused on the present. We will see what happens in the future.
