Nico Williams Wants Barcelona Move

12/06/24 17:43

L. Miguelsanz, who Football Park rate as a tier 2 for reliability, has reported that Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams is waiting for a move to Barcelona - despite interest from multiple Premier League clubs.

The Spaniard took La Liga by storm last season scoring five and assisting 12 in 31 games, helping Athletic Bilbao to a 5th place finish. Naturally when putting good performances like this together interest from other clubs is likely and now it looks as though Williams could make a move this summer.

It is suggested that Barcelona is the only move that Williams is interested in though choosing to stay in Spain rather than moving abroad.

Interest has been shown by Premier League and Ligue 1 clubs but it is expected that Williams would rather stay at Athletic Club for another year with his preference being to join the Blaugrana club.

The only thing standing in the way of this transfer's completion is Barcelona’s financial situation. With the large fee they would most likely be forced to pay as well as Williams significant wages, a big sale would be needed. Something that Barcelona, with new manager Hansi Flick, may not be willing to do this summer.

Despite that, as mentioned, Williams seems as though he only wants a move to Barcelona. So much so that he is willing to wait for it to happen. The move would be a significant one for Barcelona but only time will tell.
