Arne Slot's nightmare period in charge of Liverpool took another cruel twist today, as the Dutchman's defending champions were soundly beaten 3-0 at home by a Nottingham Forest side residing in the relegation zone before kick-off.

It marks another downwards point in a terrible season for the winners of last season's Premier League, as their monumental summer of spending wherein they broke the British transfer record twice appears to have done them zero favours, losing consecutive Premier League matches 3-0 and slinking to a shocking 11th in the table.
Winning the title comfortably last season has done Slot a lot of favours, but patience may be running out within the Liverpool hierarchy on the Dutchman's future. Replacements have already been earmarked by the watching world, but one familiar face has had his odds slashed to become the new Liverpool manager in the not-so-distant-future...
The man in question is none other than iconic former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The German departed Liverpool at the end of the 23/24 season, making way for Arne Slot to take over the club in his wake.
He seemingly retired from direct managerial duties following his Anfield departure, having been installed as the Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull Football since January 2025.

He was nowhere near any consideration to make a return to Liverpool anytime soon, but the heavy defeat against Nottingham Forest may have put some writing on the wall for Arne Slot as the Reds slump to yet another defeat amidst a miserable title defence so far.
According to Puntit, Klopp is the 4.00 favourite to take the reins at Liverpool should Slot be dismissed, ahead of Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner (5.00), Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola (6.00) and Aston Villa boss Unai Emery (12.00).
Nottingham Forest have been going through a rollercoaster season of their own so far this term, with The Reds already onto their 3rd permanent manager of the campaign in Sean Dyche, who replaced Ange Postecoglou just 39 days after the Australian replaced Nuno Espirito Santo (who has since taken over at West Ham United).

After a morale-restoring 3-1 win over Leeds United before the international break, few were expecting Forest to pull anything out of the hat at Anfield despite their host's pathetic recent form. Nonetheless, goals from Murillo, Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White ensure the East Midlands outfit would secure a famous 3 points that has sent shockwaves through the league - and cast severe doubt over Arne Slot's future in the Anfield hotseat.
The win for Forest moves them out of the relegation zone into 16th, whereas title-defending Liverpool slump to a concerning 11th in the Premier League table.
