Nottingham Forest's long-standing refusal to have a single regular week in the sport of football has continued on today in outrageous fashion - manager Vitor Pereira is set to be replaced by outgoing Crystal Palace boss Olivier Glasner in the coming days according to The Telegraph.

After taking over at The City Ground following a downturn in form under Sean Dyche to become Forest's fourth permanent manager of the campaign, Pereira did what he was employed to do in guiding Forest away from the business end of the Premier League table to preserve their top-flight status.

The Reds will now be moving onto their sixth permanent manager since their return to the Premier League in 2022, as Glasner's departure from Crystal Palace will now lead him to Nottingham in a move sure to further incite the recent feud between the two clubs.

On the one hand, I do feel for Pereira. His job was always to come in, improve performances from day dot and keep us in the Premier League. He did that task successfully, and the growing feeling was that the Portuguese gaffer had potentially done enough to preserve his spot in the East Midlands' most contentious hot seat.

Deepest thanks and gratitude for what Vitor Pereira has done for Forest. We lost one game in our final ten. Stayed up with games to spare. Brought back the energy to the City Ground and give us some very memorable moments during his short tenure.

But the feeling was also always there that Pereira may part ways with the club if a different option prevailed. Well, just like in 2023 when Steve Cooper was dismissed, Forest have dipped their toe back in the market for Olivier Glasner and come back with their man of choice on this occasion.

Forest and Palace already dislike each other at the moment owing to the whole Europa League/Conference League fiasco of yesteryear, and now the manager that delivered The Eagles their first, second and third-ever major trophies is now making the walk across no man's land to a club with a bitter ongoing feud between the two. As soon as I start to doubt this club, they reel me right back in.

Before I get all giddy over the arrival of a very ambitious appointment, it feels right to veer credit towards Pereira for doing exactly what he came in to do.

The mood in Nottingham had soured and caused division by the end of Sean Dyche's time at the club of his boyhood owing to some pretty turgid football, and things had been nuclear during the ill-fated 39 days of Ange Postecoglou. And, before all of that, there was the serious drama between Nuno Santo and the board.

So Vitor was coming in with a lot of warnings from Wolves fans and a pretty big task to do in keeping us up. With one spirited Morgan Gibbs-White in tow, he managed to do that by five points in the end with the final couple games of the season being able to be witnessed without much of a care in the world.

But the calls were there for sustainability and an ambitious move up the ladder, and Glasner certainly represents that. He's done wonders over at Crystal Palace and hopefully that same level of ascension and growth can now be seen at Forest.

The chance to bring him in, quite simply, feels too good to turn away from. Pereira did a wonderful job, but that job has now finished and the time to show serious ambition has arrived in it's place. So I thank him with the deepest gratitude I can, and genuinely wish him all the best for the future - he can look back on his time in Nottingham happily, I hope and believe.
