Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka is set to join Coventry City ahead of the deadline. The 28-year-old is expected to join on an initial loan deal, and according to Lyall Thomas, an obligation to buy will be included if Coventry City is promoted. Onyeka has fallen out of favor in the Brentford ranks, having made just six appearances in the Premier League this season.
The Nigerian international was a prominent figure for his country in their Africa Cup of Nations campaign and is set to complete a medical with the Championship club.
The league leaders appear to have run out of steam as they now sit level on points with Middlesbrough in second place, having previously been ten points clear at the top. The addition of an experienced Premier League midfielder would be a huge boost for the Sky Blues' promotion hopes, providing additional quality in the holding midfield role alongside the likes of Victor Torp and Matt Grimes.
NEW🚨: Frank Onyeka has agreed to join Coventry City on an initial loan transfer, it will become permanent if Coventry city are promoted.

Coventry's defensive vulnerabilities have come to the forefront in recent weeks, failing to keep a clean sheet in eight attempts. Onyeka ranked among the highest for interceptions and recoveries for Nigeria in AFCON and may well be the missing piece of the puzzle in Frank Lampard's side. Having spent a season on loan at Bundesliga side Augsburg, Onyeka returned to Brentford this season but has failed to make an impact since. The midfielder last featured for Brentford in their EFL Cup victory over Grimsby in October, though Keith Andrews has favored the midfield duo of Jordan Henderson and Vitaly Janelt as an established pair.
A move away seems in the best interests of both parties, especially with Onyeka likely to return to the Premier League with Coventry next season. There has been no confirmation of the medical being complete yet, but we expect the signing to be confirmed in due course.
