Preston and Charlton Enquire about Chelsea Striker

Preston North End and Charlton have both made enquiries about the possibility of signing Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana on a loan deal before tonight's deadline, as per Pete O'Rourke.

The 22 year old Ivorian was signed from Norwegian side Molde in January 2023 and made 4 appearances for Chelsea before being enduring loan spells at Union Berlin, Burnley, and Goztepe. Last season, his loan spell at Goztepe was cut short due to injury.

Preston and Charlton's Interest

Fofana is a natural No. 9 who can also drop deeper to create space for runners. His 6 month loan at Burnley highlighted this versatility, with Vincent Kompany frequently deploying him in a two-striker setup. He recorded 4 goals and 1 asssist during the campaign, despite Burnley's relegation.

Preston have started the season steadily, but with two strikers sidelined, sustaining that form is uncertain. Fofana will serve as a valuable boost in depth for The Lilywhites.

Meanwhile, Charlton sit 16th after 4 games, struggling for goals; Fofana could be the spark to ignite their attack.

Fofana's Future

With Chelsea set to recall Marc Guiu from Sunderland, and with the collapse of Nicolas Jackson's move to Bayern, David Datro Fofana is deemed to be surplus to requirement for the Blues this season.

With the window dwindling to a close tonight, this will be one to watch closely.
